Privacy Policy for Simple Volume Booster Chrome Extension

Last Updated: May 2, 2025

This Privacy Policy describes how the Simple Volume Booster Chrome Extension (“the Extension”) handles information.

1. Information We Do Not Collect

The Simple Volume Booster extension is designed with user privacy as a core principle. We do not collect, store, transmit, or share any personally identifiable information (PII) or any other sensitive user data. This includes, but is not limited to:

  • Personal details (name, address, email, age, etc.)
  • Authentication information (passwords, credentials)
  • Financial information
  • Health information
  • Location data (including IP address)
  • Web browsing history
  • User activity (clicks, mouse movements, keystrokes)
  • Personal communications
  • Content of the websites you visit (except for identifying audio/video elements)

2. Information Stored Locally (Not Collected)

To provide its functionality, the Extension stores certain non-personal settings data locally on your computer using the browser’s chrome.storage.session API. This includes:

  • The volume level you set for a specific browser tab.
  • The equalizer settings (including preset choice or custom values) you apply to a specific browser tab.

This data is stored only for the duration of your current browsing session for each tab. It is automatically deleted by the browser when you close the tab or the browser window. This data is never transmitted off your computer and is not accessible to the developer or any third party.

3. Permissions Required and Their Use

The Extension requests the following permissions solely to enable its core functionality:

  • storage & session: Necessary to store your volume and EQ settings locally for each tab during your session, as described in Section 2.
  • activeTab: Allows the extension’s popup interface to interact with the currently active tab when you click the extension icon, enabling it to read and apply your settings.
  • tabs: Used by the background script to detect when you switch tabs, so it can load the correct, previously saved settings for the newly activated tab.
  • Host Permission (<all_urls>): Required for the extension’s content script to run on the web pages you visit. This allows the script to find HTML5 audio and video elements on the page and apply the volume and EQ adjustments using the browser’s standard Web Audio API. The script only interacts with these media elements and does not read, modify, or collect any other information from the page.

4. Single Purpose

The sole purpose of the Simple Volume Booster extension is to provide users with the ability to control the volume and apply equalizer effects to audio and video content within their browser tabs. The permissions requested and the limited local data storage are strictly necessary for this purpose.

5. Data Security

Since no personal data is collected or transmitted, the risks associated with data breaches are minimized. Locally stored session data is managed and secured by your browser.

6. Third-Party Services

The Extension does not use any third-party services for data collection, analytics, or any other purpose.

7. Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of any changes by posting the new Privacy Policy within the extension’s description or on its official web store page. You are advised to review this Privacy Policy periodically for any changes.
